On Dec. 1, the 1870 3 Kreuzer color error letter, recently discovered by a collector, was auctioned in Vienna as part of Viennafil’s 75th anniversary auction. Due to a production error, the 3 Kreuzer stamp was printed in red instead of green.
More than 400 interested collectors followed the public auction online and in the auction hall. After a long bidding battle, an Austrian collector won the lot for €310,000 (including buyer’s premium). This is the highest price ever achieved for a stamp in Austria.
